Before the pandemic hit, I started a “Shelter” series exploring the theme of light and safety amongst darkness and the unknown. I created Hive while sheltering in place and thinking about how we can create connection while apart in our separate shelters. The hummingbird is a symbol of joy, bringing hope to each of these houses clustered together like a bee hive.

Hive is an original mixed media painting on a birch wooden panel, 1.5 inches deep. Hive is 18 x 24 inches with sides painted white, matching the background. This piece is wired and ready to hang.
